About Josef Damian Mass
Josef Damian Mass is an economist, business executive, researcher, and author whose work examines how complex systems survive, adapt, and fail.
For more than twenty-five years, he has worked across technology, eCommerce, international business development, consulting, and consumer products — most recently as Global eCommerce Director & Strategist at Pet King Brands, maker of ZYMOX and Oratene. His earlier career includes founding and running a software company, an economics consultancy, and an independent eCommerce practice.
"Trained as an economist, I read organizations by their incentives — then I ask the same question of AI systems, and of civilizations that don't survive their own success."
Mass writes both fiction and nonfiction. His management writing, including Win-Win: The Manager's Guide to Strategy, Incentives, and the AI Revolution, draws on decades of practical experience with organizational incentives, strategic decision-making, and institutional behavior.
His speculative fiction includes the Journey to the Stars series, beginning with Exodus to the Stars: Covenant, as well as the bilingual El Gaucho López & Friends stories. Across these works, he explores civilization, historical memory, exile, artificial intelligence, political legitimacy, cultural inheritance, and the moral compromises demanded by survival.
He also develops independent research on cognition, adaptive systems, and machine intelligence, including MATE, Lamina, and the Resolutionary Fractal framework. His essays and research are published through No Manual.
He publishes fiction as Josef Damian Mass and professional essays and research as Josef Mass. They are the same author. See the full career timeline under Economics & Management.
